Introduction

For dome type IP cameras equipped with IR LEDs, you may find some issues like unclear view or poor image quality, especially happen in night mode, this is mostly caused by IR Reflection on your IP dome cameras. Here we indicate some causes and solutions for you to proceed in order to solve the IR reflection problems and get better image quality of night view.

Symptoms of IR Reflection Problem

Please identify the symptom of your camera view from the below table and refer to the corresponding content for solving the problem.

Fogged Image on Live View

Possible causes:
Dirty Cover
Scratched Cover
Damaged Rubber Ring Around the Lens

Spots in a Curve on Live View

Possible causes
Untightened hardware screws
Unfitted rubber ring

Round Spots / Water Droplets on Live View

Possible cause: Condensation on cover 

Light Spots / Glass Reflection on Live View

Possible cause: Reflective surface above, below or in front of the IP camera

White Out Areas on Live View

Possible cause: Another IR camera (or light source) is in the field of view of this IP camera

Possible Causes and Solutions to Solve the IR Reflection Problem

The possible causes of fogged images on IP camera live view are listed as below. Please follow the steps to solve the problems.

  • Dirty cover
  • Scratched cover
  • Damaged Rubber Ring Around the Lens

 

AnchorDirty Cover

Camera cover may be dirty from dusts or finger prints that causes smudges and haze on the live view image.

To solve the problem:
1. Use compressed air or an air blower to remove dust or debris from camera cover.

2. Clean the camera cover with a microfiber cloth as this type of cloth can avoid possible scratch.

3. If the cover is still dirty, spray small amount of clean water on the camera cover and use a microfiber cloth to clean the cover again.

Note:
1. Please avoid using alcohol-based cleaner to clean the camera cover as it may damage the cover coating.
2. Do not rub the cover with tissue since it may result in scratches.

 

Scratched Cover

Camera cover may be scratched that causes fogged images on live view. If this happens, please contact your vendor for a camera cover replacement.
Please be noted that some scratches may not be easily visible. If your camera live view is foggy, and you cannot tell whether the cover is dirty or scratched, please clean the cover first by following the 3 steps mentioned in Dirty Cover above. If the live view is still foggy, your cover may be scratched and you will need to contact your vendor for a replacement.

Damaged Rubber Ring Around the Lens

The rubber ring around the lens prevents IR LED light from reflecting inside the camera cover. If the rubber ring is damaged or lose its strength, IR LED light may reflect inside the cover and affect the image quality.

To solve the problem:
1. Replace the old rubber ring with a new one, which is included in the package.

2. Make sure the rubber ring is well fitted against the inner cover to create a seal with the cover.

Spots in a Curve on Live View

The possible causes of spots in a curve on IP camera live view are listed as below. Please follow the steps to solve the problems.

  • Unfitted rubber ring
  • Untightened hardware screws

 

AnchorUnfitted Rubber Ring

Unfitted ribber ring may cause spots in a curve on the live view image. To solve the problem, make sure the rubber ring is correctly fitted into the camera case (EHN series).

Untightened Hardware Screws

Untightened hardware screws may cause spots in a curve on the live view image. To solve the problem, properly tighten the screws inside and outside of the camera housing.

For EDN series IP cameras:

For EHN series IP cameras:

Round Spots / Water Droplets on Live View

Condensation like fogging or water droplets on the inside or outside surface of the camera cover may affect image quality.

To solve the problem:
1. Clean the inside or outside surface of the camera cover by following the 3 steps mentioned in Dirty Cover above.
2. For EHN series, if the condensation is on the inside, the desiccant might have lost its effectiveness and you will need to replace new desiccant bags.

Note: It is highly recommended to replace the desiccant bags every time when you open the camera cover.

Light Spots / Glass Reflection on Live View

Glass or reflected surface above, below or in front of the IP camera may reflect IR light and adversely affect image quality. To solve the problem, you can try either way as instructed below:

  • Covering the overhanging surface with a non-reflective material
  • Relocate the IP camera when facing a glass reflection problem

 

AnchorWhite Out Areas on Live View

Another light source or IR camera is in the field of view of this IP camera may cause white out areas on live view. To solve the problem, you can try either way as instructed below:

  • Adjust the camera angles
  • Relocate the IP camera
